NCO Club

This was the Officers and Staff NCO Club where the "lifers" (career Marines) went to get drunk every night. In the first monsoon, the building became flooded and the water rose half way to the ceiling. The "lifers" were unable to party for almost two weeks. They were quite upset about not having a place to get drunk every night, but we "snuffies" (lower ranks) thought it was hilarious. Eventually, as we should have expected, they had the last laugh. As soon as the water had sufficiently subsided, we were ordered to move the club about 100 yards to higher ground. This was accomplished by a lot of grumbling men who surrounded the building and lifted it up. The only injury sustained was one broken foot, which seemed to the powers that be a small price to pay for such a noble cause.... more
